40 Scriptures to Shape Your Faith

Romans 8:28
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."
This beloved verse is frequently misunderstood. Many believe Paul says "all things ARE good," but that's not what he means. He is emphasizing that God WORKS all things TOGETHER for good.
See the difference? Some things in life are truly terrible. Loss. Disease. Betrayal. Nobody pretends they are GOOD. But God, in His sovereignty, can weave even the darkest threads into a beautiful TAPESTRY.
The term "work together" implies SYNERGY… like ingredients in a recipe. Alone, each might taste strange. Combined properly… a meal that SATISFIES.
I've heard people say, "God caused that car accident." NO. God didn't cause it, but we do live in a broken, sinful world. Remember, God is POWERFUL enough to REDEEM it. Maybe someone was saved in the hospital. Maybe relationships were healed. Maybe a witness opportunity emerged. We may not see it now, but someday we WILL.
Here's something to remember: this promise is for “THOSE WHO LOVE GOD,” the ones "called according to His purpose." But note that in the very next verse, we read God’s goal for all that happens in our lives: “For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” (Romans 8:29).
Conclusion: For the Believer… Everything that happens to us will be used to make us more like Jesus. Trust Him, even when you don’t understand.

Prayer: Sovereign God, I trust Your promise that You will work all things together for my good. When I can't see Your plan, help me believe in Your CHARACTER. Amen.
