ABUNDANT LIVING

John 10:10
“The thief comes but to kill, steal and destroy; But I have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.”

Since the Garden of Eden, we have shared a common enemy: Satan, who hates God and everything God has created… including us. He desires to hurt and destroy us if he can, and he works tirelessly with his minions day and night “to kill, steal, and destroy.” This enemy wants to fill us with fear, doubt, and worry, all of which steal our joy and peace. The problem is that Satan and his followers are very skilled at what they do.

Jesus said these words to His disciples during His discussion about being their “Good Shepherd.”

Today, we don’t know much about shepherds and sheep, but back then… they did and that analogy resonated. They would recognize how vulnerable sheep are and how the good shepherd always seeks to protect his sheep from wolves or other varmints dangerous to them.

Do you think that Jesus – God in the flesh – knows what kind of challenges we face today? Do you think that He knows that our enemy is out to destroy you and me, and at least make our lives miserable by filling us with fear, doubt, and worry? Of course He does! Jesus faced Satan himself one-on-one immediately after He was baptized by John the Baptist (See Matthew 3 and 4). He knows our enemy and wants to educate His followers – both then and now – so they are aware and prepared.

As much as Satan wants us all today to be filled with fear, doubt, and worry, Jesus wants us to be filled with faith, hope, and love.

Prayer: LORD, thank You for offering me—and all Your followers—an abundant LIFE! I receive this now by faith. Amen.
