DEALING WITH OTHER PEOPLE

Matthew 7:12
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
(ESV)

Most of us have heard “The Golden Rule” in Sunday School for years, and it seems elementary to living the Christian life.  And yet, as you read this verse, you might feel a bit sheepish because you know you keep this “rule” rather imperfectly.

Good news: Jesus already knows you’re imperfect.
Bad news: He wants you, His follower, to improve.

Unfortunately, ALL AROUND us we see bad examples of those – including some church folks – who are NOT living by this statement of Jesus.

Little things like dishonesty, anger, swearing, sex outside of marriage, crude jokes.

But wait, there’s more!  How about someone thinking that killing someone is okay if you disagree with them? Sick, evil, and sinful (and Satan inspired) yet we are seeing that regularly in the news… right here in America.

When I think of Adam and Eve in the garden – the idyllic setting they had and the peace they enjoyed with God – then I look at the world today, it’s got to be heartbreaking to the Lord God Who created it all.

Charles Spurgeon said it this way: “The Christian life is not a private affair; it is a public witness of the love of Christ manifested in the way we treat one another.”

A quick check-up: How are YOU doing in your interactions with others? And keep in mind that Jesus spoke these words EVEN THOUGH He knew what was going to happen to him.

Prayer: LORD, help me to allow YOU to control my attitudes and actions, that I might treat others around me properly. Amen.
