Day 35 | CHILD LIKE
CHILD LIKE

Matthew 18:3
“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Throughout the Bible, God often refers to us as children. In this passage, Jesus (Immanuel, "God with us”) responds to the question of who will be the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. Like many people today, the disciples could be self-centered and competitive. Three of them – Peter, James, and John – had already experienced Jesus' favor when they were invited to the mountain to witness the supernatural appearance and transformation of Moses and Elijah, as well as their conversation with Jesus.

Imagine being part of THAT!

Jesus’ response likely caught them off guard, but He was emphasizing that to be saved, we must become like little children.

There is no value – either then or now – of presenting all our achievements to the Lord and tell Him how “great” we are. Adults often cling to possessions and achievements – because our society does – but Jesus was teaching that these hold no value in heaven.

For example, I have earned several college, seminary, and university degrees. If I were not a follower of Jesus and showed Him all those diplomas, He might respond with, "So what?” Because, from the perspective of entering the Kingdom of God, those are of no value.

Here, Jesus was explaining to the disciples that young children, who usually lack experience in self-promotion or competitiveness, should serve as an example. As we grow older, we tend to become more focused on self-promotion and accomplishments, but Jesus emphasizes that that attitude is NOT the way to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Prayer: LORD, I thank You for loving me just as I am. I am grateful to be Your child.  You are all that matters.  Amen.
