Day 5 | CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART, O GOD

CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART, O GOD
Psalm 51:10
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
David, the King of Israel, had sinned… badly. He had committed the gross sins of adultery and murder.
But what made David a “man after God’s own heart” was that he (eventually) acknowledged his sin and repented to the Lord God. He recognized that God’s laws are fixed and must not be broken, yet he had broken TWO of the Ten Commandments.
Here in Psalm 51, David is contrite and ashamed before the LORD.
“Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.” (Psalm 51:1-3)
And Psalm 51:10-13 says:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will be converted to You.”
David did the one thing most people do NOT want to do when they sin: he confessed to the LORD and asked for help to change.
Romans 3:23 tells us: “For all of have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Most people know that they have sinned against God’s rules. But most people do NOT run TO God… instead they run AWAY from God.
The good news is that God wants to forgive and restore us if we ask Him and sincerely repent.
When you’ve sinned – missed the mark – then repent (turn around), run TO God and ask Him sincerely for forgiveness and to “create in me a clean heart, O God, a RENEW a right spirit within me.”
Prayer, LORD, thank You for providing a way for me to have a clean heart and a renewed spirit when I need them. Amen.
