Day 24 | BE A SHEEP, NOT A CAMEL
BE A SHEEP, NOT A CAMEL

Matthew 19:24-25
“‘It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.’ When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, ‘Who then can be saved?’”

This humorous image – a camel through the eye of a needle – made the disciples think. The fact that they were “astonished” probably shows they had hoped to become wealthy, influential, and prominent leaders in Christ’s messianic kingdom.

This was similar to the error we read in Revelation 3:14-17: “And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write:  This is what the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says: ‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot.  So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and pitiable and poor and blind and naked.’”

My takeaway from this is the word “dependency.” We should always remember that we depend on the LORD for everything we have and need, and that He has promised to supply ALL our needs.

But in America – with all the abundance we have – it’s HARD for many to THANK the LORD for what they possess. Instead, many secretly praise themselves, echoing that famous Frank Sinatra song: “My Way.”

And that’s the problem.

Jesus came to be our Shepherd, but we must be willing to be His sheep… to follow, lean on, and depend on Him.

Prayer: LORD, thank You for ALL You have done for me. I admit that everything I have, everything I am, is because of You.  Amen.
