Day 18 | THE NARROW GATE
THE NARROW GATE
Matthew 7:13-14
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
We are living in an egalitarian era, when the popular belief is that all people are fundamentally equal in worth and moral status, should have the same rights, privileges, and opportunities, and hold equal spiritual worth or human dignity… regardless of earthly labels or beliefs.
Then we come to this statement by Jesus Christ, which seems to outright refute the current “belief-du-jour” that ALL ways to God work equally well.
Jesus made it clear: the gate to DESTRUCTION (aka hell) is wide. The gate to heaven – though open to all – is narrow.
Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me.” (John 14:6). That sounds pretty narrow and specific to me!
The Good News is that the offer is OPEN to everyone, everywhere!
The problem is that the “world” doesn’t like narrowness. The “world” wants to tell God how to set the rules. The reality is… God is God. He created it all, including the heavens and the earth, and HE – and He alone – makes the rules.
Ponder HIS love for YOU – and for all people everywhere – and for His sending His Son to pay the price for us so that WE could choose to be with Him in heaven forever.
Prayer: LORD, thank You for Your plan. It is MORE than fair because YOU paid the FULL PRICE for all our sins on the cross. Amen.
