REST AND RECHARGE
Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Every season of life brings challenges we can feel unable to carry: a demanding job, a broken relationship, illness, or the unceasing noise of a world that tells us we must “do it all.”
In those moments, the invitation of Jesus rings through the chaos as He offers a gentle hand on a trembling shoulder. He does not promise a life free of trouble; He promises His presence during, as the source of true rest.
John Calvin captured this paradox beautifully when he said, “The true peace of the soul consists not in the removal of all disturbances, but in the firm assurance that the Almighty God is with us in the midst of them.”
Calvin’s quote reminds us that when we bring our burdens to Him, He does not always lift every stone for us, but He steadies our hands and hearts and grants a peace the world cannot give.
Practically, we can experience this rest by:
Pausing – Set aside a quiet moment each day to breathe and invite Jesus into the rhythm of your thoughts.
Confessing – Speak honestly to Him about the specific weight you carry; honesty opens the door to His comforting presence.
Trusting – Recall past moments when God’s faithfulness turned anxiety into calm; let those memories anchor your hope.
Remember that what the Lord offers us, His children, is deep and lasting, something that endures beyond the fleeting comforts of sleep or distraction.
Prayer: LORD, thank YOU for always being with me and being willing and able to help me, rest, recharge, and get through whatever I’m going through. I thank You for ALL You do for me. Amen.
