July 4, 2021

Hello Lake Church Family!

Not only does our church MEET here in Lake San Marcos and proclaim Jesus and the Word of God, but we also are a PART of the community and help influence and hopefully point them to our LORD in part by the actions we take.

Therefore, this year, we (The Lake Church) helped LEAD our community in our collaborative Independence Day Celebration!

Flag Retirement Ceremony

June 14, 2021

Hello Lake Church Family!

The 19th annual San Marcos U.S. Flag retirement ceremony was held at Walnut Grove Park here in San Marcos. We were honored to be invited to lead the patriotic sing-alongs with guitar and voices, and reading Johnny Cash’s poem/song: “That Ragged Old Flag.” Groups that participated include the LSM Kiwanis, San Marcos Cub Scout Pack #662, the local chapter of the D.A.R. and the San Marcos Fire Department. Be encouraged! There are MANY patriotic people in our community who love America!

Debbie and participated in the annual Flag Retirement Ceremony. It was nice. Lots of patriotic readings, lots of music (we led that), lots of introductions, lots of FLAGS being retired. We hadn't been to one of these before but on Flag Day, the LSM Kiwanis - assisted by Boy Scouts, the Fire Department and others - do this per the Flag Etiquette for the American Flag.

Here are some fun photos of the evening (taken by new church attendee Jerry Mason) - including Debbie and I in our patriotic garb.

Have a terrific week and remember: Psalm 33:12 – “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.”  Pray that revival breaks out and our nation turns back to the LORD.

"May the grace of our Lord Jesus, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all."  (2 Corinthians 13:14)
Some Fun Facts About Flag Day and the Army’s Birthday
  • In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The Flag Resolution, passed on June 14, 1777, stated: "Resolved, that the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."
  • The United States Army also celebrates the U.S. Army birthday on this date; Congress adopted "the American Continental Army" on June 14, 1775.
  • In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; on August 3, 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.
