Day 03 | ASK, SEEK, KNOCK
ASK, SEEK, KNOCK

Matthew 7:7-11
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”

Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount, is clearly inviting His listeners to ASK (ask, seek, and knock) for things they need.  Yet many Jesus Followers do NOT ask Him for things on their hearts or for help with the problems they are facing.

I have found – in talking to folks who one might think NEED to ask but haven’t – that they often feel that God is “too busy” to be concerned with their “little problem” or similar.  Maybe it’s pride?

Thus, why Jesus likely added the word picture of a son asking a parent for bread or fish (implying he was hungry).  Even on the human level, any decent parent would, of course, GIVE food to their child who needed it.

Then Jesus adds a terrific comparison by saying, “How much more” (I love that phrase) “will your Father who is in heaven give GOOD THINGS to those who ask Him!”

We worship a GOOD Heavenly Father who loves us, His children, and WANTS to provide for us.

Prayer: LORD God, THANK YOU for supplying my needs and being willing to provide for me all that I need.  You are a good, good Father.  Amen.
