IT’S FOR OUR BENEFIT
2 Corinthians 4:15
“All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.”
Yesterday, we discussed the need to purposefully stop everything, pray, and listen to the LORD.
We don’t LIKE to stop everything nowadays. We prefer to “multitask,” which often means we don’t focus exclusively on ANY one thing at any time.
But God desires and deserves our FULL attention. He is GOD, and He deserves to be praised, worshipped, and listened to. Yesterday, we talked about HOW to start learning to LISTEN to Him.
Today’s verse tells us that “All this is for your benefit,” which is certainly true of our prayerful thanksgiving to the Lord God of the universe. God does not NEED our prayers and praise; He is self-sufficient. But WE BENEFIT in many ways, from learning to LISTEN to Him, praising Him, and letting our thanksgiving “overflow to the glory of God.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
What is more fundamental to our relationship with God than our salvation? And salvation is God’s GIFT by God’s GRACE through FAITH… which God also supplies. Our salvation is clearly NOT of our works… which is tremendous as we would never even know if we’ve “done enough” to earn full forgiveness and eternity in heaven.
Start here with your thanksgiving today. Basic stuff: being born again… the most important thing for which – I’m guessing – YOU have not thanked God recently.
And THAT thanksgiving for your salvation may well reach others in your little circle who are secretly searching and looking and wondering… Is God real? Is there an afterlife? Does God know me? Does He care? Or if they are Believers: “Does God know what’s going on and that I have little peace?”
Quietly show them your peace that passes all understand.
Prayer: LORD, I am so grateful for all you have done for me. Thank You!
