In Everything Give Thanks
Day 20 | ABOUNDING WITH THANKSGIVING
ABOUNDING WITH THANKSGIVING
Colossians 2:6-8
“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone capture you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.” (NKJV)
Here’s the truth about following Jesus and becoming a genuinely thankful person: it will take work, and you’ll be opposed by the “basic principles of the world” (our enemy’s stronghold articulated by his followers: the non-Christians in our lives.)
Note the warning in verse 8. Today, a plethora of unchristian beliefs, philosophies, and lies exist in newspapers, TV news, magazines, school systems and textbooks, political pundits and candidates, social media, and so on and on. The result is that it is WAY too easy today to get sucked into beliefs that are contrary to the beliefs we find enumerated in God’s Word. And keep in mind that ALL the “stuff” going on today in the world – good and bad – has happened before in the history of the world, and God has addressed in some fashion in the Bible, His Holy Word, which the Spirit of God led men of God to write years ago for OUR benefit today.
Note: “…rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”
Are you well ROOTED in Christ? Are you ESTABLISHED in the faith? If YES … then you will be “abounding … with thanksgiving!”
If you’re not there yet, keep at it. Keep in the Word. Keep going to church. Keep praying. Growing up as a kid or becoming mature in Christ both take time, but it is God’s will for you and me that we grow up and grow in Him.
Prayer: LORD, continue to teach, lead, and love me. Thank You! Amen.
