Day 22 | ASK, SEEK, KNOCK
ASK, SEEK, KNOCK

Matthew 7:7-8
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Jesus spoke these words during His “Sermon on the Mount.”  He was teaching a large crowd, which included His followers, the curious, and even some Jews who disliked him.
This verse encourages us ALL to PRAY to our Heavenly Father. It’s noteworthy that in this same “sermon” He had also just taught the folks what we call “the Lord’s prayer.” But now he’s encouraging prayer even more.

In the following verses 9-11, the Lord paralleled how earthly fathers would always be counted on to provide for their child if asked, so why would we expect anything LESS from God our Heavenly Father, who is the Perfect Father?

Now, for the Jews – and all of His listeners were Jews – the idea of God as “Father” was new and challenging to comprehend.  The idea of “Abba, Father” – an intimate term for their fathers – was difficult to grasp, as they had only known God as the Powerful, the Almighty… to be revered and feared.

So, if I could ask you one-on-one, what do you know, think, and believe about prayer, what would you say? Is prayer to you more like an “open door” opportunity?  Or perhaps a reward for doing good?  Maybe something so incomprehensible that you dare not attempt it?  Or is it something else?

Your understanding of prayer and – as read in these verses – God’s willingness to GIVE to those who ask, should cause you to want to pray EVERY day.

Prayer: LORD, thank You for the privilege of prayer.  Please help me to ask, seek, and knock EVERY day.  Amen.
