Day 36 | DOING GOOD

DOING GOOD
2 Thessalonians 1:11
“So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.” (NLT)
When you think of historic Christian individuals who “did good” to others, who comes to mind? Mother Theresa? (Who gave her life helping the very poor in India.) Dr. David Livingstone? (Who brought the gospel and his doctoring skills to poor Africa.) Maybe William Wilberforce, who sacrificed his health to obtain a permanent law to end slavery in Great Britain and then the United States.)
In each of these cases, these people were committed to DOING GOOD to others, even damaging their health and shortening their own lives in the process.
In his writing of 2 Thessalonians, Paul encourages his followers in the church to “accomplish all the GOOD THINGS your faith prompts you to do.”
It’s inspiring to read about the lives of great men or women of faith, and there have been WAY more than just the three I’ve mentioned in this piece. And there is always MORE that needs doing. Yet, we don’t have to become Theresa, Livingstone, or Wilberforce to make a difference.
We need to keep our eyes open – even within our own churches – for people who need help and then to “do good” as our faith prompts us.
To that point, let me ask: If the Lord should have something for you to do, some person to call or visit or someone to help… Would you make time in your busyness to LISTEN to His “still small voice” within you?
Here’s today’s challenge. Practice Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” And when you are still, ask Him if there’s something he wants you to do.
Prayer: LORD, I would like you to guide me and direct my steps. Help me first to make time to “be still,” and then to ask WHO You want me to call, talk to, encourage, or help in some way. Amen.
