Day 35 | THE HEAVENS AND YOUR JOY
THE HEAVENS AND YOUR JOY
Psalm 8:3-4
“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon, and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him?”
One of the things about our world that personally causes me much awe, wonder, and joy is the night sky.
When I was a boy, around 11, I received a small telescope for my birthday along with a large pictorial book about the planets and stars of our solar system. I used to spend a lot of time gazing up at the night sky, and I especially loved my Boy Scout campouts, where we were away from all the city lights and could see countless stars and several planets each night.
The wonder of it all caused me, then and now, to feel awe.
But then, the best part of enjoying the heavens is – as David captured it in verse one – “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth.”
Consider this: the SAME almighty, powerful, Creator God who MADE every star, planet, nebula, moon, people, all the animals, every fish in the sea – and on and on – THIS same God knows YOUR name. As Isaiah 43:1 says, “‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.’”
So amid a universe that is BILLIONS of light years in diameter (so say the astrophysicists), God knows YOU… your name, your worries, fears, hopes, dreams, and situations.
So on the next clear night, look up, ENJOY what He has made, and thank the LORD that He knows you by name. And He loves you!
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for the gift of Creation and the beauty of the night sky. Most of all, thank you for the gift of Your Son, Jesus, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
