Day 30 | SELAH: REASONS TO REJOICE
SELAH: REASONS TO REJOICE

Psalm 68:3-4, 19
“But let the godly rejoice. Let them be glad in God’s presence. Let them be filled with joy. Sing praises to God and to his name! Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds. His name is the Lord—Rejoice in his presence!”
“Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. Selah.”
(NLT)

King David truly knew how to praise the Lord. From experience, he knew the JOY that comes to the one who trusts in God as Savior, King, and LORD. From experience, he knew the JOY that comes to the one who – even if he falls off the rails – comes back to the LORD, is forgiven, is welcomed into His presence, and is filled with JOY.

Let me ask: are there any events or happenings about people that you celebrate? Birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, and so on?

Now, let me ask: do you celebrate any events or happenings about the LORD? Salvation? Answers to prayer? Love, Joy, Peace?

David knew how to be thankful and praise the LORD, and the Lord FILLED him with more JOY than he deserved.

David knew, too, that “each day He carries us in His arms.”  That’s a terrific picture… being carried in the arms of Almighty God.

And then we have that unusual little word: Selah.   Some modern translations say “Interlude” – but the meaning is similar. You see, each Psalm was written to be sung, and in music – as I’m sure you’ve heard – “selah” means to pause, rest, and ponder what has just been said or sung. I suggest you re-read today’s verses. Or look up the entire Psalm, read it slowly and consider what David was trying to tell us.

Prayer: LORD, thank You, thank You. You deserve all my praise, my singing, my rejoicing in You.  Amen.
