Day 29 | OIL OF JOY

OIL OF JOY
Psalm 45:6-7
“Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever. You rule with a scepter of justice. You love justice and hate evil. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.” (NLT)
Many who don’t know Jesus as their personal Savior have a warped idea of what God is like. Surveys show that most non-Christians see God (“if He exists at all”) as being judgmental, mad, upset, vindictive, and certainly NOT full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control OR anything positive, joyful or happy.
So, when reading this Psalm, besides referencing the human king, we see God’s anointing with “the oil of joy.”
How would YOU like to be anointed by God like that, with the “oil of joy”? Do you think you’d be happier? Nicer to be around? More JOYFUL?
In a broader spiritual context, oil symbolizes the Holy Spirit throughout Scripture. Just as oil flows smoothly and brings light, the Holy Spirit is a guiding force in the lives of believers, illuminating their path and enabling them to live righteously. The Holy Spirit is our Guide and our Sanctifier Who leads us into becoming more like Christ; he intercedes for us when we pray, He gives spiritual gifts to believers just as He decides, He unites us with one another, He will provide us with our resurrected bodies, and so much more!
But as for our topic in this series, God – the Holy Spirit – wants to pour out the “oil of joy” on YOU and me.
Why put up with being “un-joyful” – when you can be FULL of joy? Remember, you have not because you ask not.
Prayer: LORD God, I ask that the Holy Spirit pour out OIL OF JOY on me so that everyone around me can see the JOY and see You. Amen.
