Day 27 | CHEERFUL SINGING

CHEERFUL SINGING
James 5:13
“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.” (ESV)
Perhaps it’s human nature, but when we’re suffering (or hurting or being ill-treated), we want to PRAY to our Lord God. On the other hand, when we’re cheerful, most do NOT break out in songs of praise to God. And I got to thinking, why not?
It’s not that the LORD doesn’t deserve our thanks and praise when we’re cheerful, happy, and full of JOY. But I would guess that MORE Christians cry out in prayer and pain to God than sing praises to Him in the good times. And so, why is that?
Perhaps because, most of the time, pain, hurt, and suffering drive us to reach out to our Lord God for help and relief, MORE than good times, happiness, joy, and cheerfulness make us reach out to our Lord God with songs of thanksgiving and praise.
It’s like washing your hands before a meal. Although you were probably told hundreds of times when you were a little kid to “wash your hands,” it finally (probably) stuck, so now you do it almost automatically.
It’s the same with giving PRAISE and THANKSGIVING to the Lord in song or word, it needs to become a regular habit.
Think for a moment: What would you say if something good happened to you and you wanted to sing or speak a word of praise to the Lord? You could PRACTICE right now if you wanted to and – believe it or not – it would likely make the real thing easier, as you’ll know what to say.
Get in the habit of praising the LORD every day.
Prayer: LORD God, you deserve so much more praise from me than I give You. I’m sorry, I’ll try to do better. Amen.
