THE JOY OF SALVATION
Psalm 71:23
“I will shout for joy and sing your praises, for you have ransomed me.” (NLT)
Have you ever considered how often people talk about getting “back to the basics” in different areas of life? Consider exercise; we all need to, from time to time… get back to the basics. Consider food, sometimes we just need the basics. And so on.
When it comes to our walk with the LORD, sometimes we need to get back to the basics, too. And Salvation is the most basic, fundamental thing that causes us to have any relationship with the Lord. Our being ransomed from being eternally LOST due to our much-less-than-perfect life is THE most important thing that God offers us through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. As important as prayer is, as the fruit of the Spirit is, or anything else that comes to mind… Salvation, being ransomed from the Enemy, is at the TOP of the list.
So, when’s the last time you prayed a prayer of THANKSIVING or gave SHOUTS of joy and praises to the Lord for your being ransomed from being eternally lost?
Here in Psalm 71, the psalmist, now old, writes about a reflective series of things for which he is wanting to praise the LORD (Yahweh): protection, safety, rescue, hope, God’s mighty deeds, God’s teaching, and – as I mentioned here – redemption.
As you pray throughout the day today, be sure to THANK THE LORD again for redemption and for ransoming YOU and making YOU a Child of God.
Prayer: LORD, thank You again for sending Jesus Christ to earth so He could ransom me from the Enemy. I am full of JOY as I remember this! Amen.
