Day 23 | OUR SOURCE OF HOPE, JOY AND PEACE

OUR SOURCE OF HOPE, JOY AND PEACE
Romans 15:13
“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NLT)
How is your prayer life? Full of joy? Full of panic? Full of others? Full of yourself?
The Apostle Paul was writing here to the church in Rome. Think about that: Rome, the center of the then most powerful empire on earth, the Roman Empire, and Paul was writing the church there about HOPE, JOY, PEACE, and the Holy Spirit. Let's consider all Paul said.
First, he was praying – and teaching – that the Lord GOD was their Source. Then he mentions hope, joy, and peace, which everyone wants! But he ties those feelings, those emotions, or – as Paul discusses in Galatians – the FRUIT that God desires to fill into the lives of Christ Followers via the work of the Holy Spirit.
Let me ask you to be honest for a minute (or two, about the length of this devotional.) On a scale of zero to ten, how full of each of the following are you: HOPE, JOY, and PEACE?
Paul is praying for his brothers and sisters in Christ – and us too – that they (and we) would recognize that their SOURCE for hope, joy, and peace is none other than the power of God the Holy Spirit.
You're right if this sounds a bit like yesterday and the fruit of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the power source and the provider of these fruits and thus the JOY which is the focus of this series.
So reread today's verse and say YES to the Lord. Today, you can be completely filled with JOY, PEACE, and HOPE by trusting in the Lord God Almighty.
Prayer: LORD, please fill me completely with Your Spirit and the gifts of hope, joy, and peace that You offer. Amen.
