Day 22 | FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
Galatians 5:22-23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, JOY, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
Do you have a fruit tree? We’ve had a dwarf lemon tree for several years, producing an abundant amount of lemons, more than we can use. It’s pretty amazing when you think of it, all we do is water and pick the fruit. The tree does all the work because making fruit is what a fruit tree is designed to do.
Now, consider today’s famous Scripture.
Those nine fruits listed are not something that WE make happen. We can’t make our lemon tree make apples, oranges, or even lemons, but given a chance, it WILL create lemons.
In today’s verse, all nine different fruit are made by the Holy Spirit residing in each Believer. The Spirit is our Source of EACH of the nine fruit, which includes JOY.
So, how do YOU or I make JOY in our lives?
Answer: You don’t; any more than you can create a lemon, you can’t make real JOY either.
BUT… and here’s the key: The Holy Spirit WILL create real JOY in our lives if we allow Him to rule and lead and don’t quench His work in us. And how do we do that? Keep sin out of our lives, ask forgiveness as needed, and even ASK the Lord to produce ALL of the fruit in our lives.
Read again today’s verse and realize that you and I, as followers of Christ, have access to ALL nine of the fruit of the Spirit. The LORD wants that for each of us, and we should rejoice!
Prayer: LORD God, I want all the fruit of the Spirit in my life all the time. Help me to eliminate anything in my life that hinders that work. Amen.
