Day 21 | HOW TO HAVE A BLESSED NATION

HOW TO HAVE A BLESSED NATION
Psalm 33:12
“Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the Nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen for His inheritance.” (AMPC)
Today’s verse was taken from the Amplified Translation Classic Edition.
The Amplified Bible is unique in that it attempts to expand our understanding of certain words by looking at the original language (Hebrew in the Old Testament) and then giving us the definition of the KEY words.
The keyword in this verse is “Blessed.”
“Blessed” in Hebrew is “ashar” (pronounced “eh-sher), and the Strong’s Concordance definition is “Blessedness or Happiness or How Happy.” This is why the Amplified version expands the word blessedness with some synonyms.
A lot is happening in our country today, but this verse intrigues me: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”
About this verse, one commentator says: “O how happy is that nation which has Jehovah for its Elohim; the self-existent and eternal Lord for its covenant God; one who should unite himself to it by connections and ties the most powerful and endearing!”
Let me say the obvious, history seems to reveal that America was MUCH MORE Godly and Biblically centric at our founding than it seems today (think 1776 and the reliance on prayer in writing the Constitution and Declaration).
Thus, it seems that ALL of us who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord should be praying that ALL the Bible-believing churches in America will thrive, grow, and reach more people with the Gospel. We are NOT competing; we are brothers and sisters in Christ and must be cheering each other on.
Our Nation’s future may depend on it.
Prayer: LORD, help us become a nation once again, where YOU are our LORD GOD. Amen.
