Day 18 | ARE YOU JOYFUL WHEN YOU GO TO CHURCH?

ARE YOU JOYFUL WHEN YOU GO TO CHURCH?
Psalm 122:1
“I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the LORD!’”
How do you usually feel when going to church on Sundays? Does it feel like a duty or a privilege? Do you look forward with joy or are you just resigned? Do you look forward to attending your church with a smile or are you wondering if the sermon will be interesting and short?
Most people reading today’s devotional have probably been attending church for a while, and I’m guessing that you have, over those years, experienced feelings from each side of the spectrum.
But how about nowadays?
As we grow in our faith and in following Jesus as our Savior and Lord, our relationship grows and – like most friendships – can get deeper and better. Friendships like that don’t just happen; they take effort. I wonder if you’ve ever considered that each of us can develop a friendship with Jesus too… in addition to accepting Him as Savior.
Today’s verse, part of Psalm 122 written by David, describes the gladness and the JOY that David felt when he entered “the house of the LORD.” David looked forward to giving THANKS to the Lord and praying for “peace” and “security” for his people.
The next time you go to church, check your emotions. Then, if they seem more negative, ask the Lord, “Why do I feel like this?” The Lord knows and can help you get to the place where the feelings in today’s verse are YOUR feelings too!
Prayer: LORD, help me always get my attitude right when I meet with brothers and sisters in Christ at our church. Speak to me, lead me, help me to grow in You. Amen.
