REJOICING WITH OTHERS
Romans 12:15
“Rejoice with those who rejoice”
This is a familiar verse to most church-goers and one most of us probably practice!
Most people LOVE to share in someone’s happiness: a young man gets his first full-time job after college, a 14-year-old gal just made her school’s volleyball team, a couple is having their first baby … the list goes on and on. It is all good and VERY appropriate to join in and rejoice with them.
In fact, if you did NOT join in, it would be insulting and cause others to wonder what was wrong with you.
The other half of this verse is, “mourn with those who mourn,” and there is a place and time for that, too.
The reality is, our EMOTIONS were built into us by our Creator, and that would be Who? Oh yes, Elohim, our Almighty Creator God!
I don’t know about all the animal kingdoms; perhaps they each have their way of being “happy” with one another, don’t know. I’ve watched fish, birds, dogs, cats, and other domestic pets, but have never really seen anything that resembles what we humans have… an ability to REJOICE with someone rejoicing!
So, how are you at being glad, happy, and rejoicing with others when they are delighted, happy, or rejoicing?
As Spurgeon said: “I do not think the church rejoices enough. We all grumble enough and groan enough: but very few of us rejoice enough.”
In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 we read: “Rejoice Always, Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
“Rejoice always. This IS God’s WILL for you.” Ponder that.
Prayer: LORD, tap me on the shoulder throughout the day and remind me of the need I have to rejoice always! Thank You, Amen.
