THE LORD IS MY LIGHT AND MY SALVATION
Psalm 27
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war may rise against me, in this I will be confident. One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, for in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tabernacle
He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.”
“Teach me Your way, O Lord, and lead me on a smooth path because of my enemies.” “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!”
Have you ever considered that LIFE here on earth is a battle? Now, don’t despair, but remember: this is NOT heaven. This also is NOT the “new earth” promised in Revelation. (We have much history to go, and only the Father knows when the end times will be upon us.)
David again faces trouble in this Psalm, as he has done many times. But this time, he realizes that the LORD is his light, salvation, and strength. The LORD will take care of David.
Charles Spurgeon – that famous pastor from the past – said: “David is pictured in this Psalm as in a faithful miniature. His holy trust, his many conflicts, his great transgressions, his bitter repentance, and his deep distresses are all here; so that we see the very heart of ‘the man after God’s own heart.’”
When YOU face difficulties, do you turn to the Lord as David did here?
David is showing his TRUST in his Lord in a very difficult time. So, how did David develop or “grow” that trust? This Psalm can help us all learn from David what to think and how to pray to live confidently, something we all need.
Prayer: LORD, help me to learn from this Psalm how to live confidently in this life.
