PLANTED BY THE RIVER
Psalm 1:3
“They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” (NLT)
Imagine you are a tree. You enjoy gentle breezes and sunshine. You are OK with birds in your branches, but you REALLY like WATER. Every plant, every tree, even a cactus, needs water.
And so, this verse from the first Psalm paints a picture of the tree planted along the riverbank. Talk about plenty of water!
So, who is the “they” that are “like trees planted along the riverbank”? Well, it could include YOU.
The first two verses talk about the JOYS of those people who don’ t hang with or follow the advice of people who are wicked, sinful, or mockers of God or God’s people. Further, these JOYFUL people spend time with God and in His Word, where He talks to them.
Have you ever considered that God wants to talk to YOU? Well, He does, in part to help lead you to becoming “like a tree planted by the riverbank.”
Smile! Your Heavenly Father loves you and wants the best for you! Remember, He speaks to His children through His Word and His Spirit, but you’ll need to make time and listen up as the noise of this world will try to occupy your time to the exclusion of time with Almighty God.
Prayer: LORD God, I want to be like that flourishing, prosperous, healthy tree you picture here. Lead me, guide me, and speak to me. Thank You, Amen.
