40 Days of TRUTH
Day  35 | GOD: THE SOURCE OF TRUTH
GOD: THE SOURCE OF TRUTH

 John 8:32
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Once again, I’m drawn to this KEY verse which Jesus said and John recorded.
Succinct and powerful.

Two thousand years ago, Pilate asked Jesus: “What is truth?”  This question has reverberated through history.

In defining “truth” – it’s helpful to note what TRUTH is NOT:

> Truth is NOT just whatever works.
> Truth is NOT just what makes someone feel good. (Bad news won’t make you feel good but may indeed be truth.)
> Truth is NOT just what we believe.  A lie believed is still a lie.
> Truth is NOT just good intentions.  They can still be wrong.
> Truth is NOT what the majority says it is.  The majority can reach a wrong conclusion.

“Truth” in the Greek is “aletheia” – meaning to “un-hide” or “hiding nothing.”  It implies that TRUTH is always there to be seen or found, but it may be hidden.

“Truth” in the Hebrew is “emeth” – meaning firmness or constancy.  It implies something that can be relied on.

Although TRUTH has been discussed and debated by philosophers, theologians, and people from all walks of life… TODAY it appears – at least here in America – that TRUTH is under attack as in no other time in our history.

“My truth” or “my feelings” or “my desire” are being placed HIGHER on the importance scale than what is actual, objective TRUTH.

For instance, when a young boy announces that he now feels he is a girl, a growing number of politicians, educators and doctors will jump into action, accept his feelings as TRUTH and offer up surgical and/or puberty blocking prescription for a “problem” which, besides irreversibly sterilizing this young person for life, strikes at the very heart of what is TRUE.

The truth is this… “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” But many people then – and many now – don’t want GOD to tell them what to do.  They don’t want to have to obey His commandments.  They want to “do their own thing.”  To those people Solomon wrote: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”  (Proverbs 14:12)

Prayer: Lord, help me to keep my eye on YOU.  Help me to evaluate everything I hear or read – from the media, from friends, from politicians or from ANYONE – help me to evaluate it for truthfulness and help me to remember that YOU are the SOURCE of all Truth.  Amen.
