GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME
Psalms 100:5
“For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever.” (ESV)
Have you ever had some good days and some bad days? Sure you have! Maybe you had a string of “good days,” but then a “bad day” broke your string?
The reality is that we people are inconsistent. We don’t want to be erratic – and try not to be – but we all are to some degree.
It’s probably why so many have a tough time believing that the LORD can be good and loving towards us ALL the time. I mean, even MOMS aren’t happy with their kids ALL the time!
But our Lord is different. His love is steadfast. The definition of steadfast is “firmly loyal, constant, unswerving, fixed, unchanging, and unmovable.” Synonyms include faithful, dedicated, true and devoted.
Today’s verse is the final verse in one of the most loved psalms – Psalm 100, which is a happy, upbeat psalm:
"Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!
Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!
For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.”
When we start thinking about “forever” – well, it can be somewhat nebulous. I mean, we live in a world that is day by day, week by week, and year by year. Then David talks here about FOREVER? How do we process that?
Well, let me tell you what I do – I just accept it, remind myself that HE is GOD and I’m not, and that HE can think in eternal terms… even if we can’t.
Relax in the LORD, make a joyful noise, and thank Him that He – the Lord God Almighty – has everything planned out!
Prayer: LORD, thank You for making me one of Your children, and I’m looking forward to ALL You have for me. Amen.
