CONNECTING with GOD
Day  12 | OUR LOVING GIFT-GIVER
OUR LOVING GIFT-GIVER

Matthew 7:11
“If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father Who is in heaven [perfect as He is] give good and advantageous things to those who keep on asking Him!”

What’s one of the things we do for OUR children that we don’t do for strangers’ children?
Give them gifts!

I mean my children (and now my grands too) are MY children.  I don’t dislike other people’s children, they are just not MINE.  My children are connected to ME.  And God has children who are connected to HIM.

John 1:12-13 says: “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”

Jesus is teaching here as recorded in Matthew.  He’s talking to the crowd.  He’s helping them to see by giving them an analogy.

He knew then – and it applies now too – that parents typically give gifts to THEIR children.  That, as I said, is normal behavior for good parents.

But then Jesus said that we do that (give gifts to our children) EVEN though we are evil (“sinful by nature” the AMP Bible says). Then he goes on to say: “HOW MUCH MORE…”

I love that phrase.  “How much more will your Father Who is in heaven (who is PERFECT) give GOOD and ADVANTAGEOUS things to those (His Children) who ask Him!”

Does that at least START to make you thankful, excited and full of praise to God? It should!

Come to grips with this: If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, then YOU are one of HIS children.  And since He’s perfect, HIS love and HIS provisions for you are WAY beyond what you might have ever done for your own children.

Get it?  He is a PERFECT Father.  But keep in mind, because of that love, He will give you only “good and advantageous things to those who keep on asking.”

My takeaway from that is, the things I ask for may ultimately NOT be good for me.  When I was young, I could have eaten chocolate every day, all day long. But ultimately, that is not a good way to live and stay healthy.

Another time we’ll discuss this further but realize this: God loves you.  He is a perfect Father.  He is way better than any earthly father or mother and will only give you things that are GOOD for you.

Sorry if that negates your prayer for a new v-12 Bentley Continental… but trust your Heavenly Father to know what is best for you today, tomorrow, and down the road where we can’t see.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for your amazing connection to me. Thank You for your desire to bless my life with gifts that are ultimately for my benefit now – and down the road.  You know what’s there, I don’t, so I trust You.   Amen.
