Day  37 | LIVING BY FAITH
LIVING BY FAITH

Hebrews 10:35-38
“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise. ‘For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith.’”

We are living in some strange times.  But for the child of God, our connection to the Father is secure and gives us reason to rejoice! But the Hebrew Christians to whom this letter was written were discouraged and in danger of casting away their confidence in the LORD.   This idiom also referenced cowardly soldiers of the day who would throw away their shields and run away from the battle.

What those soldiers needed, and what we believers who are in a type of spiritual battle need, is endurance to receive the promise after we’ve done the will of God.  It’s always a challenge to obey God’s will when the fulfillment of His promise – Jesus’ return – seems so far away.

“Now the just shall live by faith”
is from Habakkuk 2:4.  Interestingly, that verse is quoted three times in the New Testament.  Each time, the context shows a slightly different emphasis being made.

Romans 1:17 – “The just shall live by FAITH” – The emphasis is on faith.
Galatians 3:11 – “The JUST shall live by faith” – The emphasis is on just.
Hebrews 10:38 – “The just shall LIVE by faith” – The emphasis is on living.

Strange times or not, our LORD offers to provide us what we need to endure and cling to our confidence in HIM.  Don’t cast that away!

Prayer: LORD, help me to continue to trust you and cling to You. The world’s a mess, and I can’t fix that, but I can follow and cling to YOU. Amen
