Day 16 | HOW TO ENDURE
HOW TO ENDURE

2 Corinthians 4:17-18
“For our momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Sometimes, life is GREAT, but other times, not so much. And Paul KNEW what he was talking about. By the time he wrote this to the Corinthians, Paul had suffered prisons, beatings, stoning, a shipwreck, robbers, perils, hunger and thirst, sleeplessness, and more. Wow… and that is what Paul calls “light affliction”?

Many want to tell anyone who will listen how they’re suffering and hurting to get some sympathy and attention. But when compared to Paul, they are living the high life!

Paul was a fantastic man of God, apostle, and early church leader. He planted churches and followed up with them… such as this letter to the Corinthians.

But Paul calls his trials “light affliction” by comparing what he has suffered to eternity with our Lord in heaven! It is true that “this too shall pass” as troubles come and go, but compared to the “weight of glory,” our problems don’t measure up, no matter how bad they are.

It’s challenging to imagine the “weight of glory” because we can’t imagine ETERNITY, but Paul is teaching that the key is what we FOCUS on. Paul is telling us that we need to NOT focus on the things which are seen, but on the things which are not seen and are eternal… like heaven.

Stop for just a moment right now and imagine you’re in heaven. Imagine your loved ones are there; there is no sorrow, tears, or dying. The LORD is there, and you can spend time with Him… just you and Him. Talking, being together, experiencing love and beauty as you never have before. Meditate on that for a while and watch your problems become lighter.

Prayer: LORD God, I long for and look forward to that day when I’m with You, forever. Amen.
