Day 14 | THE 23RD PSALM
THE 23RD PSALM

“The Lord is my shepherd;I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;

For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Psalm 23

This is a candidate for the most famous Scripture in the Bible, for both Christians and non-Christians.  I can't count the number of times I've quoted this psalm in the hospital, at a memorial service, at the bedside of someone as they were passing, in church, and on and on. And every time, it touches people. Books have been written about this one psalm.

Let me ask, when you hear this psalm, where does your mind go? Do you see sheep in a green valley and beside still waters? Do you focus on His table prepared for you in front of your enemies? Do you focus on the shepherd's overflowing goodness and mercy? Or perhaps dwelling with the Great Shepherd forever?

What you focus on today might indicate where your need is today. And the Great Shepherd wants to meet ALL of your needs as only HE can.

Do you need restoration to the Shepherd? Freedom from fear? Having your needs met to overflowing?

Know this: Our Great Shepherd – the Lord God Almighty – can shepherd you and me as no one else could ever do. He wants us to simply TRUST Him and rely on His goodness, ability, and love for us, His humble sheep.

Prayer: LORD God, my Great Shepherd, I acknowledge that I need you. I need your salvation, and I need your love, your provision, and your guidance. I'm a dumb sheep compared to You, and I trust you now and always. Amen.
