Day 13 | THROUGH TROUBLED TIMES
THROUGH TROUBLED TIMES

 Isaiah 46:1-3
“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains  be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah”
(NKJV)

Troubled times… we all have them and they are part of life.  The author of this Psalm looked to God for help and found it!

One thing that separates a child of God from someone who doesn’t know the Lord is WHERE you go when you’ve got problems.

For children of God, HE is our refuge, strength and help in troubled times.  The Scripture is correct when it states that “the rain falls on the just and the unjust,” but we – who have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior – have access to the Lord God to help us. Thus, we need NOT fear.

How many times in Scripture have we been told to “Fear not!”  (Lots, right?) So here is one more.
Then, the psalmist paints a picture of how bad things might get… the earth is removed, the mountains have fallen into the oceans, the waters roar, and the mountains shake.  EVEN THEN, we are not to fear. And why?  Because we trust Almighty God to get us through even the worst of times (indeed, all the mountains falling into the sea would be one of the worst of times!)

Finally, after these verses, we have this little word: “Selah.” We see it a few times in the psalms, and since the psalms were originally songs to be sung, it would be a musical REST for a few counts. I believe this is our cue to stop reading the Psalm for a few moments, and reflect and ponder what we’ve just read.  Let it sink in… and understand how important those words are.

Prayer: LORD, Your word is TRUTH.  This Psalm is accurate and I acknowledge YOU as my rock, my refuge, and my strength Who can help me in any time of trouble.  Amen.
