40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 40| PRAISE FOR OUR GOD AND JUDGE
PRAISE FOR OUR GOD AND JUDGE

From Psalm 75
“We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds. You say, ‘I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge with equity. When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm.’
To the arrogant I say, “Boast no more.” It is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another. As for me, I will declare this forever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob, who says, ‘I will cut off the horns of all the wicked, but the horns of the righteous will be lifted.’”
 (NIV)

If you’ve ever watched a courtroom scene or served on a jury, you might wonder if the judge (or jury) will make the right decision. Did they get ALL the facts? Are they fair-minded?

I’ve been on a couple of jury trials and found myself paying close attention to all the details and arguments presented in court by both parties. Then, when we conferred as a jury, it was surprising who heard and remembered what, though we ALL had just heard the same presentation.

The point is… we are imperfect. We can’t always fairly issue a verdict on any given subject or situation, though we may try.

God, however, does not have that problem. He remembers EVERYTHING (that’s an unsettling thought, right?), even things He has forgiven us for. That means He is absolutely right when He judges anyone or anything. Side note – yes God forgives us and removes our sins as far as east is from the west, but being the all-knowing God, He never forgets.

The Psalmist here was lauding God’s ability to judge equitably and accurately.
Hebrews 4:13 says:  “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”

Given these verses, we should always walk carefully and do our best to live a life pleasing in His sight. Don’t take God for granted or assume that once you’ve received Christ, how you live doesn’t matter. It does.

Prayer: LORD, thank You for your forgiveness. Please help me live a life pleasing in Your sight. Amen.
