Day 21| PRAISE FROM THE CAVE
PRAISE FROM THE CAVE

Psalm 34:1-3, 7-8
“I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.
The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.  Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!”

It’s hard to imagine David – the defeater of Goliath – being so afraid of King Saul trying to kill him (which would be pretty bad) that he went to the Philistine city of Gath to try to hide (pretending to be crazy). But then, he ran from there to a cave where other desperate men – his followers – joined him, and then he wrote this Psalm and probably sang it to the men.

If you’ve ever wondered WHY God favored David, then consider this first verse: “I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Do YOU do that? Do you praise God all day long on Sundays, or maybe not even then? When WAS the last time you praised God out loud?

I am convinced that the KEY to David’s favor by God is that he DID praise the Lord and bow to His superiority, might, wisdom, and his being greater than David in every (positive) way. And David bragged on the Lord (so to speak) so that everybody near him heard it and was glad!

And then that invitation – “O taste and see that the Lord is good!”  In other words, try God! If you want more from your relationship with God, read this Psalm and let it sink in. Then… do more praising at all times!

Prayer: Lord, you deserve more praise from me than I give You. Forgive me for not praising You more, help me be more like David, and let my praise for You be continually in my mouth! Amen.
