40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 4 | WHERE DO YOU TURN?
WHERE DO YOU TURN?

Psalm 3
“Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain. I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.” (
NIV)

Have you ever been in a pile of hurt?  Maybe you’ve got people who don’t like you, are spreading lies about you, are trying to get you to be fearful of what might happen to you, worried that it will, and doubtful that God will help.

Remember that we have a common enemy – Satan, the devil – who will try to discourage and defeat us in any way he can.  He doesn’t want you talking to God, believing in Him, trusting in Him, or running to Him when you’re in trouble.

David’s situation in this Psalm is that his son, Absalom, was trying to kill him and take the throne as King.   (I’ll bet you’ve never had that happen to YOU!)

David called out to God and recognized that God was like a shield around him.  That God – who David knew well – was his glory and the One who held David’s head high.

David remembered that he could call out to the Lord, and the Lord would answer him and provide him the restful sleep that he needed.

Let me ask you, when the last time you were in a mess, did you run TO GOD or turn to someone or somewhere else?

As a Believer in Christ, the Lord God should be the FIRST place we run: in good times or bad.  Good times to say “THANK YOU” and bad times to say “WHAT NOW?”

Prayer: Lord, YOU are my shield, fortress, and all-powerful, all-knowing Lord God.  Help me keep the communication lines with you always open and talk to you about everything happening in my life.  Amen.
