HOW TO FIND PERFECT PEACE

Isaiah 26:3
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
(KJV)

Shalom – the Hebrew word for peace – means way more than just “peace.” The term is used here in the English translation of Isaiah 26:3… one of my favorite verses which I memorized in the KJV when I was a kid.  And this verse – spoken by the prophet Isaiah around 720 BC as he was inspired by the Holy Spirit – has much to teach you and me today.

“Perfect peace.” Have you ever experienced that?  Can you remember such a time?

Earlier I stated that “shalom” means more than just peace or the absence of conflict.  But in this verse, it is even MORE positive; it is “shalom shalom” in Hebrew… thus the translation “perfect peace.”

So, let’s assume you desire this “perfect peace.” How exactly does that happen?

“Whose mind is stayed on thee.”   “Stayed”  (Hebrew “samuk”) means settled upon, established upon.  Like a house’s foundation, which is KEY to the strength of the house… when we have settled that “He’s God and we’re not,” and we start genuinely trusting in Him, we are taking the steps necessary to receive God’s offer of “shalom shalom,” or perfect peace.

Today, all our technologies and full calendars can easily distract us from spending quality time with the Lord, which then diminishes our experience of the perfect peace that He offers.

The Bible is FULL of stories (all true) that can – if we read them – give us confidence that our Lord God is all-powerful, everywhere present, all-knowing, and LOVE.  And for some reason, HE chose to love you and me.  Therefore, He wants the best for us and, in this verse – among others – has shown us how to have His “perfect peace.”

Prayer: LORD, forgive me for being too busy to spend quality time with You.  I want your perfect peace – your shalom shalom – and I desire to trust you in every area of my life.  Thank you so much for being so patient with me.  Amen.
