Day 26 | THE FISH AND THE BIRDS
THE FISH AND THE BIRDS
Genesis 1:20-23
“And God said, ‘Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.’ So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.’ And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.”
Again, ALL NEW was God’s creation of the various fish and living things in the waters AND all the birds flying in the skies.
Have you ever had an aquarium? We’ve had many fresh and salt-water tanks at home over the years. Even then, the variety of options for either type of fish at home was incredible, though those choices don’t come close to ALL the variety in all the oceans, lakes, rivers, and so on that exist today. Then some – like whales – are really mammals who need to breathe (like we people do) but live in the ocean, too. Unusual, for sure.
Then, look at all the bird varieties, home-type birds, parakeets, giant birds (like the condors), and so on. Even penguins are birds, though they – like a few other species – don’t fly.
It turns out that many types of fish and birds have become food for people… something that God planned, again, for our benefit.
God told them to “be fruitful and multiply” and… they have! Again, something NEW from our creative Father God.
Prayer: LORD God, thank You for the fish and the birds. We don’t usually give much thought to them, but without them, we would miss something special in Your creation. Amen.
