Day 32 |  Matthew 5:14
Matthew 5:14
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden."

(NASB)

Jesus says this to His followers… ordinary fishermen, tax collectors, and tradespeople. Regular folks. He doesn't say they SHOULD BE light or MIGHT BECOME light. He says they ARE light. Present tense. Right now.

Light isn't something we MANUFACTURE. It's who we BECOME when Christ dwells within us. The question isn't whether we'll shine… it's whether we'll HIDE.

A city on a hill is visible by its very NATURE; its lights can't be hidden. Jesus challenges us to EMBRACE who we are rather than dimming our light to fit in. We should be SHINING for Jesus! In workplaces, schools, neighborhoods, and online spaces, our conduct and compassion should be shaped by Christ.

Let’s be honest: we’ve all, at times, dimmed our Christian light… keeping quiet instead of speaking the truth, going along with the crowd instead of standing OUT, and caring more about being LIKED than being LIGHT. We’ve all held back from being “the light of the world.” Maybe you can relate.

But here's the truth: VISIBILITY isn't arrogance; it's FAITHFULNESS. A hidden light helps NO ONE. Jesus says SHINE. Let your faith be visible and your kindness conspicuous… not to draw attention to YOURSELF, but to HIM. It’s like the analogy I’ve often made: be like a salmon that swims upstream against the odds to make a difference.

As a kid in Sunday School, I remember singing "This Little Light of Mine.” It was a simple song with a profound truth: the world is DARK, and it needs OUR light. Our country needs it, too. We need not be obnoxious about it, but we should share as the Spirit nudges us.

Quote: "Shine as a light in the world, holding fast to the word of life."
— Amy Carmichael

Prayer: Lord Jesus, grant me COURAGE to shine boldly… not for my glory but for Yours. Let others be DRAWN to You through my life and my words. Amen.
