Day 25 | BE THE LIGHT
BE THE LIGHT

Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Consider that Jesus gave Himself the title of being the LIGHT of the world, and now He bestows this great compliment and significant responsibility to His followers.

His saying we are the “light of the world” suggests that we are not only RECEIVERS of light (from God), but GIVERS of God’s light to others. We are meant to SHINE so that others are drawn to the light and life-giver, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

It’s not just a vague comment to say the world today is pretty dark. Sin seems widespread and standards and beliefs are turned upside down compared to just a couple of generations ago.

Jesus never tells us to BECOME salt or light; He simply said that we ARE. So, the question is: are we (you and me) fulfilling that responsibility?

SALT – as we saw a few days ago – is necessary today to preserve, because our world appears to be rotting and decaying.

LIGHT is necessary because the world is in darkness and not walking in the light.

If we, as Jesus followers, are not being either salt or light, what’s our purpose?

Jesus also tells us in Matthew 19:14 to “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Are you?

Prayer: LORD, help me to do better at sharing my Salt and Light from YOU with those around me. Amen.
