Day 16 | PRAYING SPECIFICALLY
PRAYING SPECIFICALLY

Matthew 18:35-43
“Then it happened, as He was coming near Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the road begging. And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant. So they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. And he cried out, saying, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’
Then those who went before warned him that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!’
So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he had come near, He asked him, saying, ‘What do you want Me to do for you?’
He said, ‘Lord, that I may receive my sight.’
Then Jesus said to him, ‘Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.’  And immediately he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.”

The Pew Research Group found that fewer Americans pray daily. Twenty years ago about 58% prayed daily; today, it's 46%. I wonder why the drop.

I remember in Sunday School as a kid, after hearing a report from our Sunday School teachers about some missionaries the church was supporting, we grade-school kids would pray, “God bless the missionaries.” Now that’s a child’s prayer and was OK then. But NOW as grown-ups we should pray more grown-up prayers and that I should include being specific about a request for ourselves or others.

As an example, I have a good friend who heads a ministry that builds water wells in Malawi Africa for people who need it. Thus, a more specific prayer after reading a letter from them might be: “Lord, please help them get a new water well installed for the village they’re ministering to.” Now that’s specific.

How’s your prayer life? Are you praying every day? Are your prayers specific?

Prayer: LORD, thank You for the privilege of talking to You in prayer. Help me to strengthen my prayer life and to trust You, Your answers, and Your timing. Amen
