THINKING MORE ABOUT HEAVEN
Colossians 3:1-2
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Some church folks think we should focus our attention on Jesus and not on heaven. I understand the sincerity, but it misses an important point.
Today’s Scripture teaches that we ARE to set our minds on heaven because… we LOVE Jesus, heaven is where He is NOW, and thus to long for heaven is to long to be where Jesus our Lord and Savior is.
CS Lewis said: “It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that they have become so ineffective in this.”
Hebrews 11:16 – “But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”
That’s WHY God’s people should LONG for heaven.
It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of this life – I think to a greater degree than it was during Jesus’ day – what with all the electronic options we have today for entertainment, communication and so on. BUT, we who are BORN AGAIN, should spend MORE time – not less – thinking about heaven.
CS Lewis again, said it well: “It you read history you will find that the Christians who did the most for the present world were just those who though the most of the next … Aim for heaven and you will get earth ‘thrown in.’ Aim at earth and you will get neither.”
Prayer: LORD, I am sooooo thankful that heaven is ahead for me. Please help me to THINK about it at least a little, every day. Amen.
