Day  18 |  1 Corinthians 13:4-7
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

Paul's famous "love chapter" dismantles every shallow definition of love our culture offers. This isn't romance. It's agape… a self-giving, sacrificial love that chooses ANOTHER'S good over its own.

Let me break it down in practical terms. Read each phrase and ask: "Is THAT me?"

“Love is PATIENT.” (When someone cuts you off in traffic?) “Love is KIND.” (To the neighbor who never waves back?) “Love does not ENVY.” (When someone else gets the promotion?) “Love does not BOAST. Love is not ARROGANT or RUDE.”

It gets harder. “Love doesn't insist on its OWN way.” (In your marriage? In church meetings?) “Love isn't IRRITABLE or RESENTFUL.” Keeping a list of wrongs? Replaying old hurts?

And then the crescendo. “Love BEARS all things. BELIEVES all things. HOPES all things. ENDURES all things.” Not occasionally. COMPREHENSIVELY.

Now, be honest. How'd you do? Here's the truth: NONE of us can love like this on our own. This love is beyond human capacity apart from the Holy SPIRIT. It's the love Christ MODELED, and it's the love He calls US to EXTEND.

Randy Alcorn said: "If we minimize grace, the world sees no HOPE for salvation. If we minimize truth, the world sees no NEED for salvation." Love holds BOTH grace AND truth.
So pick ONE phrase from this passage and LIVE it out this week. Just one. Watch what God does through your obedience.

Quote: "Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person's ultimate good as far as it can be obtained."
— C.S. Lewis

Prayer: Father, pour Your love into my heart through the Holy Spirit. Rid me of selfishness and make me a CHANNEL of Your agape. Amen.
