Day  17 |  Ephesians 2:8-9
Ephesians 2:8-9
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."

Grace is the heartbeat of the Gospel. Paul makes it unmistakably clear: salvation is a GIFT, not a wage. We didn't earn it, contribute to it, or deserve it. Period.

Let me repeat that… because some of us — especially longtime Christians — need to hear it. Salvation is a GIFT. Not a reward for good behavior. Not a badge for church attendance. It is a GIFT.

Think about how gifts work. When someone hands you a beautifully wrapped present, you don't say, "Wait, let me pay you for that." You OPEN your hands and RECEIVE. That's exactly how grace works.

Paul says, "so that no one may boast." Grace eliminates boasting because you can't brag about unearned gifts. Understanding grace dissolves pride, and we stand on level ground at the cross.

Augustine of Hippo put it beautifully in the 4th century: "For grace is given not because we have done good works, but in order that we may be able to do them." Read that again. Grace comes FIRST. Good works FOLLOW. Not the other way around.

I've talked with people who say, "I'm not good enough for God." I always say the same thing: "NONE of us are! That's the POINT of grace!" The moment you realize you can't earn salvation, you're ready to RECEIVE it.

This truth LIBERATES us from performance-based religion. We don't serve God to EARN His love. We serve Him because we've ALREADY received it. From first to last, salvation is HIS work — and our role is simply to open our hands and trust.

Quote:
"Grace is God loving, God stooping, God coming to the rescue, God giving himself generously in and through Jesus Christ."
— John Stott

Prayer: Gracious God, thank You for the gift of salvation I could never deserve. May I be filled with GRATITUDE for Your AMAZING GRACE. Amen.
