Day 26 | PRAYING AND BEING THANKFUL FOR OTHERS

PRAYING AND BEING THANKFUL FOR OTHERS
1 Timothy 2:1-4
“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.” (NLT)
What an interesting section of Scripture. The author, Apostle Paul – writing as the Holy Spirit directed him – is telling his junior pastor, Timothy, to PRAY for ALL people.
Really?
Today, our country is so divided. It doesn’t matter WHO the President is; whoever holds that office is both the most loved and the most hated person in the country. Consider that nearly one-half of the millions of voters voted for the other person.
Now consider we Christians. Today’s verses admonish us that we MUST pray for our President… whether that was your candidate or NOT.
But we are also told to PRAY for EVERYONE.
Really? Yes, ALL PEOPLE.
So, praying for the President, ok, that’s easier to understand. But everyone? Why?
The answer is in verse 3: “…God our Savior who wants EVERYONE to be saved and to understand the Truth.”
Remember what Jesus said in His prayer to the Father: “Your WORD is truth.” (John 17.17). God wants everyone to understand the TRUTH.
So, PRAY for the President… wise decisions, letting God influence, being kind to us who enjoy our First Amendment religious liberty, and so on. Since only God knows whether our President is born again, pray for salvation, too.
But also pray for others in your circle, church, and community. Whisper a short prayer when you see someone with a walker or riding an e-bike. Offer a silent prayer for the checker at the grocery store, the police officer giving you a ticket, and everyone. Why? Because “This is good and pleases God our Savior.”
Prayer: LORD God, help me to learn to pray for others everywhere. Not obnoxiously, but quietly as I want to please You. Amen.
