LOOKING FOR TRUTH
Jeremiah 5:3
“LORD, do not your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain; you crushed them, but they refused correction. They made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent.”
If you’ve ever wondered what God is looking for amongst we people, here’s a good place to start…. The Lord (Yahweh-God) is looking for TRUTH.
In John 14 Jesus Christ says: “I am the way the TRUTH and the life…”
We read in John 8:44 – “When Satan lies, he speaks out of his own character for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
1 John 4:6 says: "We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.”
So, what we are seeing from the above is two sources, two camps, two choices… We can live in TRUTH, or we can live in LIES.
God is the SOURCE of all Truth. God NEVER lies.
Satan is the source of all lies which are the opposite of truth.
Numbers 23:19 tells us: “God is not a man, that He should lie.”
Hebrews 6:18 says: “So that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie.”
So you ask… “Ok, what’s the point?”
The point is this – in the world today, both TRUTH and LIES abound. In fact, with so much information floating around today, it becomes more confusing and more difficult to discern true from false. What is TRUE versus what is NOT.
We can see this clearly today in our political climate. Charges and counter-charges. News and fake-news. Truth and falsehoods.
Remember this… as you read or listen to the news or join in a discussion with co-workers or friends: TRUTH ultimately is what God desires. He will NEVER lie. He wants His Children to do likewise; be truth-tellers and ask forgiveness when we miss the mark. He is the SOURCE of Truth.
Conversely, the enemy of our faith (Satan), NEVER tells the truth. He is the SOURCE of all falsehoods.
Learn to see the difference and credit the source appropriately.
Prayer: Lord, it’s so complicated today. I struggle to know what is true and what is false. Help me to discern which is which, to HOLD to the truth and to REJECT the false. I acknowledge that YOU are Truth, all the time. Amen.
