Day 33 | STAND FIRM AND HOLD YOUR GROUND
STAND FIRM AND HOLD YOUR GROUND
Ephesians 6:14
“So stand firm and hold your ground, having tightened the wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (an upright heart).” (AMP)
Throughout all of recorded history there have been people who tell the truth and those that don’t. In a court of law someone testifying agrees to: “… tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth …”
Today though, “truth” is up for debate. Many simply don’t want to agree that “2 + 2 = 4” and will argue with you. Think of all the other topics about which people would prefer to argue.
I’ve often asked a crowd to close their eyes and then point in the direction they think is NORTH and hold it. Then I have them all open their eyes and look where everyone is pointing. Usually, it’s ALL over the place!
Then I’ll ask: “And so how are we going to determine which direction is TRULY North?”
Out comes my compass. It points north. And that isn’t up for debate… it just IS.
God said: “I Am that I Am.” God is ultimate TRUTH, whether anyone likes it or not. It’s not up for debate, He IS the I AM.
And when we – His Followers – get into a debate or discussion with someone about TRUTH, this verse tells us to: “… stand firm and hold your ground…” Meaning don’t give into compromise – especially in things about the Lord God.
And how does one do that?
Step 1 – “… having tightened the wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist…” Meaning: Get ready for immediate action and be prepared physically, mentally and spiritually.
Step 2 – “… and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (an upright heart).”
We need to have a clear conscience before God and, with His help, be prepared to stand up for the truth – HIS truth – which never changes.
Prayer: Lord, help me to get ready. Help me to spend adequate time with You and in Your Word so that I can discern what is TRUE and what is FALSE in this life. Help me always to stand with You and what is TRUE. Amen.
