Day  17 | IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH
IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH

John 4:23-24
“But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in TRUTH. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in TRUTH.”

In Deuteronomy 6:4, we read: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”

Our WORSHIP of God is proportionate to our LOVE for God. As we love Him, so we worship. The Hebrew word for “might” indicates TOTALITY.  Jesus expanded this expression to “mind” and “strength”; thus, to worship God “in spirit and in truth” necessarily involves loving Him with heart, soul, mind, and strength.

To worship “in the spirit” means engaging your entire being, your whole heart.  Unless you have a real passion for God, there is no worship in spirit.

To worship “in TRUTH” – means that we have proper knowledge about the God we worship... who He is, what He’s said, how much He loves us, what He’s provided for us, and so on.

Quick quiz: Do you believe God loves YOU?  When was the last time you felt His love?  Felt Him surrounding you with His presence, His love, His comfort, His protection?

You’ve probably heard the old adage, “If you don’t feel God is near, guess who moved?”

The Word of God – the Scriptures, both old and new testaments – are filled with what we need to know about Almighty God.  HE – who we are to worship in “spirit and in truth” – is revealed there.  His mighty acts, His endless love, His care about YOU.

Imagine for a minute what your life MIGHT be like if you could improve the quality of your worship of God.  How much more you would FEEL like a Follower.  How much more you would KNOW that you are loved.  How much more you would shine for Him to others.

Improving your worship of God is all for YOUR benefit and His glory. God never asks us to do anything that is not for our benefit… because He loves us so much.

Prayer for today: Lord, I do love you. Thank You for loving me, imperfect as I am. Thank You for forgiving me, for accepting me into your family and making me one of your children.  Help me to worship you better, day by day, week by week.  Help me to learn more deeply, how to worship you in spirit and in truth.  Amen.
