40 Days of TRUTH
Day  16 | HOW SHOULD WE LIVE TODAY?
HOW SHOULD WE LIVE TODAY?

Psalm 15
“Who may worship in your sanctuary, LORD? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill? Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the TRUTH from sincere hearts. Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends. Those who despise flagrant sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the LORD, and keep their promises even when it hurts. Those who lend money without charging interest, and who cannot be bribed to lie about the innocent. Such people will stand firm forever.”

Every generation has its own issues, trials, challenges, and cultural shifts.  In today’s America, it seems everything is changing. The rules, the lockdowns, our freedoms – everything – seems up for grabs.  So sometimes people ask me, “What are we to do now?”

It’s a good question – and an important one.

Thankfully – for those of us who worship Almighty God, HE has provided principles for living, which are TRUE and TIMELESS. They don’t depend on a vote of the populace.  They don’t depend on who’s in office. They don’t depend on the stock market. They don’t depend on ANYTHING – they just ARE:  Timeless principles for living life in any generation, in any place, under any circumstances.

Psalm 15 – written by King David – gives us what we need to know.  And verse 2 teaches us that the followers of Christ need to DO what is right and speak the TRUTH.

That’s easier said than done inasmuch as the examples we see on the network news stations are NOT always speaking the truth.  ALL the news outlets seem determined to spread their point of view, to put their SPIN on everything.  They will purposely slant an article to persuade the viewers to agree with them, often telling half-truths or even totally non-truths in the process.

For we Believers, speaking half-truths or untruths is NEVER an option.

Verse 3 goes on to say that we should be “Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends.”

And verse 4 says that we should: “… speak out passionately against evil and evil workers while commending the faithful ones who follow after the TRUTH.“

And in case you are wondering, the LORD GOD is the source of all TRUTH.

I could do a sermon on this verse because today we’re seeing TRUTH being declared EVIL, EVIL being lifted up as GOOD, destruction being declared okay, and on and on and on.

Our world is becoming upside down and inside out… though this is NOT the first time in the history of mankind when such a situation exists.

“True North” can be found in God’s Word… and though not everyone reveres God’s Word, at least WE can commend those who are faithful and trying to follow and promote the TRUTH of God.

Psalm 15 is a short but powerful and practical Psalm. I encourage you to read it through a time or two or three today.  In fact, don’t close out this devotional before reading it again.  You’ll be glad you did!

Prayer: Lord, THANK YOU for providing some clarity in the midst of the fog that we seem to be living in today.  Thank you that these principles are timeless and that I can DO these things.  I ask that You help me today to draw closer to You and to live by the TRUTH that you have revealed to me.  Amen.
