40 Days of TRUTH
Day  10 | PUT ON THE BELT OF TRUTH
PUT ON THE BELT OF TRUTH

Ephesians 6:13-14
“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.  Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.”

In Ephesians 6, we are given a picture of the battle that is raging and what the Believer needs to do to survive and thrive in a world system that is in distress and under control of the Evil One.

Several teachings about TRUTH race into my mind when I read about the “evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world” that were in operation during Paul’s days … AND … are in full speed mode today as well.

Focusing on just verses 13 and 14, we are told – by the Spirit via Paul – to “put on EVERY piece of God’s armor” in order to stand, survive, and thrive… and how “to resist the enemy in the time of evil.” Again, these days QUALIFY as a “time of evil,” wouldn’t you say?

Then the Lord tells us to put on – like a piece of clothing – “the BELT of TRUTH and the body armor of God’s righteousness.”

I appreciate how, much like Jesus’ using farming terms when He taught, Paul uses terms that we can relate to today… even 2000 years after he wrote it.  (Isn’t God wise?)  Putting on clothing – even battle clothes – is something we can understand.

And a BELT is a piece of clothing.

A few months ago – when we could eat freely in restaurants – my wife and I were having breakfast when I noticed a couple of local Sheriffs come in to eat as well. They had on their uniforms of course, but what amazed me was their BELTS and ALL they had connected to them. In fact, it caused them some difficulty when they tried to sit in a chair at the table.  They managed, but it was tough.  I didn’t count, but they had a slew of things on their belts… all necessary to their duties.  (I do remember going up to them as we were leaving and thanking them for their service. They smiled and seemed pleased.)

THAT kind of belt is what I think of when I read this verse today.  One that does MORE than just hold up one’s pants.  One that is a vital carrier of things necessary to be successful as a sheriff or, in our case, in our fight to RESIST the enemy (Satan) in these evil days.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for not leaving us defenseless against the Enemy who is in full-take-down mode today. He’s running amuck in our world and in a way unprecedented in our lifetimes. Thank You Lord for Your Word which is a “lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”  Amen.
